Congratulations you have found or were gifted a cat grass starter kit courtesy of our sweet PiPi!

About our Pierre [from here referenced as PiPi], is a handsome tuxedo cat with the cutest black nose who lives life on his own terms. He enjoys his cat grass, but only organically hand grown by his Pappy, but loves his dessert even more, especially carrot cake with cream cheese frosting!

To honor PiPi, I created mini cat grass kits so owners can grow cat grass for their own loved cats. Growing cat grass is very easy, and its satisfying to give your cat something that you grew yourself!

  • Included in your kit:
    • small container to grow your grass. you may substitute any container of roughly the same size
    • bag of organic oat grass seeds. there is enough for 3 batches, roughly 1/4 cup of seeds per batch
    • 3 expanding coconut coir soil pucks
  • Instructions. The kit includes enough for 3 batches of oat grass!
  1. Measure out 1/4 cup of oat grass seeds, soak in water for at least 1 hour, but no longer than 4 hours. Drain seeds when ready to plant.
  2. The soil pucks are compressed, place the puck into the planting container and add roughly 1/4 cup of water, break it apart as it expands, add more water slowly until fully expanded, spread soil to even layer, soil should be moist but not muddy
  3. Spread drained oat grass seeds in even layer over soil
  4. Cover loosely with lid or whatever available. Leave alone for 48 hours
  5. After 48 hours, uncover, there should be small white stems sprouting from the seeds. Water lightly with 2-3 tablespoons of water daily, more water if its in a sunny location, less if it its too moist.
  6. Leave in area with indirect sunlight, or place in direct sunlight for 2-3 hours per day, do not leave in direct sunlight too long!
  7. After 3-4 days there should be tiny leaves sprouting
  8. Once grass is tall enough you can present to your cat, either by plucking some leaves and hand feeding (PiPi’s preferred method) or giving them the whole tray.
  9. All cats are different but PiPi recommends that you supervise their cat grass consumption, too much may upset their stomachs!
  10. The cat grass will be good for about 10 days, after which it may become too old for your cat. Compost what is left and start over!

And don’t forget your dessert after your veggies!
